Facebook will launch a payment system Pay WhatsApp around the world to monetize messenger
Founder and CEO of Facebook mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg) spoke about how the company plans to make money on their WhatsApp messenger. One step in this direction will be the global launch of the electronic payment system WhatsApp Pay, which is currently available in India.
Recall the messenger app WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, is one of the most popular apps in the world, and its user base consists of about 1.5 billion people. However, until now, Facebook has been unable to develop a model that would allow to turn the popularity into revenue. Previously Facebook planned to start the demonstration of advertising content to users of WhatsApp. This feature had to be integrated into messenger in 2020, but for some reason the developer decided to abandon it, at least at this stage of product development.
In this context, Facebook had to take other steps to begin receiving income from WhatsApp. During a presentation to investors, Mr. Zuckerberg made a clear statement about how WhatsApp will make money for the company. He announced that Facebook attaches great importance to the development of the payment system WhatsApp Pay. Currently it is available in the Indian market, but the company intends to launch it worldwide in the near future. It was noted that Facebook is working to «transfer money through WhatsApp was as simple as sending photos». In addition, Facebook will provide WhatsApp users the ability to purchase goods from different partner companies within the messenger.
