Hoping to learn a 7-nm process technology, Chinese companies have recruited 100 professionals TSMC
In the news often flashes the name of the SMIC, but in the Chinese market is younger but equally ambitious players in the semiconductor sector. To narrow the gap with the leaders, they are willing to poach top talent. Taiwanese TSMC, according to some, recently lost hundreds of engineers who found work in China on more favorable terms.
Hunters valuable human resources of TSMC, as explained by Nikkei Asian Review, there were two Chinese companies: Quanxin Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (QXIC) and Wuhan Hongxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (HSMC), and their numerous subsidiary and related structures. Received from Taiwan specialists were about equally distributed between the two companies. HSMC was founded in the year 2017, QXIC appeared only in 2019. First, according to a source, invited the natives of TSMC’s two and a half times more than they received in Taiwan.
HSMC is going to build for $18.4 billion plant for the production of 14-nm processors by 2022, and in the future expects to develop 7-nanometer process technology. Funding the company relies on the municipal government of Wuhan and the construction company from the South of China. Former COO of TSMC Chang Shan (Chiang Shang-yi) is at HSMC post of Director-General, so the choice of direction to attract valuable personnel of this company is not surprising.
TSMC to request Nikkei said that every year the staff of the company leave no more than 5 % of the staff, and she’s trying to create for the personnel a comfortable working environment and career growth. From informal sources it became known that TSMC has banned equipment suppliers to share with Chinese companies technological solutions developed by its order. According to Gartner, “education” of qualified personnel in the semiconductor industry takes years, and simple poaching talent from outside may not provide immediate effect. The problem is Chinese industry is that the local market has a lot of competing companies, which at the same time clutching a large number of projects, the resources are not spraying in the most efficient manner.
