HTC introduced a new model of VR-helmets series Vive Cosmos
In connection with the cancellation due to the outbreak of coronavirus exhibition Mobile World Congress technology companies are starting to make announcements of new products, which were supposed to be held in Barcelona.
The company HTC, which presented last year a self-contained VR helmet Vive Cosmos, announced today three models of the series Vive Cosmos. Each of them is an addition to the existing system Cosmos, differing only in the new replacement «front panel».
The new series includes four devices: Play Vive Cosmos, Cosmos Vive, Vive, Vive XR Cosmos and Cosmos Elite. They all have the same case and the same display with a resolution of 2880 ? 1700 pixels. User can buy any of them, or buy the cheapest model — Cosmos-Play to which you can later purchase another panel for update.
VR-helmet Play Cosmos is equipped with four cameras to track, in contrast to the six Vive Cosmos. Also it has no built-in earphone, available Vive Cosmos. Unfortunately, HTC did not disclose the price or release dates of Cosmos Play, promising that additional details will be announced «in the coming months.»
In HTC Vive Cosmos Elite feature added external tracking with External Tracking panel Faceplate. Helmet comes complete with two base stations SteamVR and two controllers Vive. It will support wireless adapter Vive and Vive Tracker that are not included in the kit.
The cost of the helmet is $899, while the owners of Vive Vive Cosmos and Cosmos Play will be able to update their helmets to version Cosmos Elite, buying the faceplate for $199, which will be on sale in the second quarter of 2020.
Helmet Elite Cosmos will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020, and pre-orders for it start on the website Vive 24 Feb.
Was also presented a business-oriented VR-helmet Cosmos XR, which uses two cameras XR high resolution in order to extend the capabilities of Cosmos outside of VR in the area of augmented reality. Angle field of view Cosmos XR 100 degrees.
Price and release date of the new device. HTC is planning to report additional information about the device at GDC, and offer a kit for developers in the second quarter.
