IDC: global smartphone market in 2019 is expected to decline
Company International Data Corporation (IDC) released a forecast for global smartphone market for the current and subsequent years.
It is reported that in 2019 the global industry will be in the red. Shipments of smart mobile phones are expected to reach 1.38 billion units. If this forecast is correct, the supply will decline by 1.9% compared to last year.
It is also noted that in the first half of this year, the demand for smartphones will decline by 5.5% compared to the same period of 2018. In the third and fourth quarters expected some improvement, which will be explained by the release of devices with support for mobile communication of the fifth generation (5G).
This year devices running the Android operating system will have approximately 86,7 % of the total volume of shipments of smartphones. Approximately 13.3 percent will be iOS, then there are various models of iPhone.
Also projected that in 2023 the global smartphone shipments will reach 1.52 billion units. Thus, the rate of CAGR (compound annual growth rate in compound interest) in the period from 2018 to 2023. will be about 1.6 %.
