Online appetite increased: Ukrainians used during the winter holidays 1.5 times more traffic
In the New year and Christmas Vodafone customers Ukraine has uploaded more than 9 petabytes of data, which would be enough, for example, to view 650 million videos on YouTube.
Compared to last year for new year’s eve online-the appetites of Ukrainians increased by 1.5 times, due to the active expansion of the geography of 4G and 3G networks of Vodafone. Today, 4G coverage is available in more than 66% of Ukrainians, 3G more than 86%. 99% of all holiday traffic generated in the networks of high-speed Internet, more than 60% in 4G network.
«Winter holidays – it’s traditional ability to ensure that network capacity is enough for everything and for fast Internet and for such a huge number of calls as new year’s eve. Traffic is growing significantly, while our customers may congratulate each other even in moments of peak loads on a network, when across the country committed hundreds of millions of calls, and network fly millions of video greetings. This year is preparing for a significant expansion of 4G coverage, and thus to a further increase in traffic,» – says Eugene Frunza, technical Director of Vodafone Ukraine.
With the expansion of the geographical coverage and increasing number of Internet users continues to grow in popularity various online channels for Christmas greetings. The number of greetings by means of calls gradually decreases (0.7 billion 0.9 billion last year). Even more pronounced trend to reduced use SMS for holiday greetings this year, the Ukrainians have sent SMS twice less, their number amounted to slightly more than 17 million, while last year during the same period, Vodafone customers sent 35 million messages.
Christmas eve (24 December) this year scored the highest number of calls. The largest number of SMS were sent on 31 December. Peak Internet activity occurred on Christmas day (7 January).
The record for calls in the period of winter holidays was Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava region. Online records were set in Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Zaporozhye and Kherson region. Most of the calls have traditionally had at midnight on 1 January. Peak hours of Internet usage was different on December 25 (17:00) and January 7th (11:00).
